Greetings in our Lord and Savior's Name,
After the 13 hour flight back from Chicago to Beijing, it is good to be here to get back to the work at hand. It was the first time in my life of flying where I did not sleep on the entire flight but rather spent the whole time in prayer. Strange as it may seem, the time went very quickly. It almost doesn't seem possible, but these are just some of the reasons God has taken me and the 10 orphans I love so much through many difficult trials. I know my little guys cry out to the Lord continually. The foundation of God's word in their little hearts is rock solid. I begin this email update by sharing James chapter 2 verse 5
"Listen, my beloved brethren: did not God choose the poor of this world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which He promised to those who love Him?"
I can't think of anyone more poor in this world than abandoned, handicapped, newborn fragile unwanted babies in a country most consider "overpopulated". God chose these 10 to be raised in what I consider to be the best educational homeschooling Christ centered materials known to man. I am serious folks, BJU Press is simply the best and I absolutely love and respect the way they are so traditional with not only bible based teaching, super quality teachers and even actors, but also very entertaining to even me! Another solid foundation is with music. I am a stickler and I praise God so is BJU Press. Although there are some modern praise songs throughout the materials, the Hymns of the faith are paramount to the entire program of learning.
I know for a fact the kids would sing by memory no less than 6 hymns and no doubt would include "I have decided to follow Jesus" and the "Doxology". Think of the contrast of Communist leaders and government workers attempting to "change" the kids thinking and lifestyle. I truly believe they are frustrated by this time. I truly believe the kids are doing well with learning Chinese but apart from that, the kids have no interest in learning the propaganda. They, like me, trust in Almighty God to protect and preserve all they were taught. As our verse in James 2:5 says, they are "heirs of the kingdom". King Jesus will at some point assert His rightful authority in the future of these lovey Christian children.
As grandma and I went to the gate, we asked the new guard to go in and get the resident leader to come out to talk with us. He came out with his typical "body guard" sized workers and we stood in the cold discussing the children. The same "mantra" of "The kids are doing well" was spewed out and the typical "We know you did nothing wrong" and "we know you miss them" and I added "They miss me too". The leader once again "complained" and wished I would understand he can't make decisions because he has superiors who do that. I once again graciously conceded to this fact and told them I only ask them to relay our desires in the report to Xu Dong director. I asked she be greeted by me for Spring Festival and once again let them know we will not give up on attempting to get the kids back.
Now on to Jiang Jia Yi. She was doing much better. I was able to see her move, she responded with tears when I talked to her and she is no doubt much stronger. The infection has gone away since I returned and her dad said she was more emotional than any time in the past 4 months. He was so impressed with her reaction to me today. I could hardly hold back my tears. She was crying and yet would slip back and forth from a comatose condition. She did move her eyes around as I walked slowly to the right and left. It was impressive to see her response. At one point when she was crying I wanted so bad to cry but instead wanted to laugh and rejoice. Have you ever done that? Crying but rejoicing and trying to hold back the sadness??? Oh this stuff is so hard to go through.
The doctor came out to talk with me and he immediately wanted to explain about discontinuing Jiang Jia Yi's medicines some time back. Remember that incident? I fought hard to get the hospital money and even asked Dr.Novick to encourage the doctors. Well, it all had huge impact. They now want to backtrack a bit but I don't blame them for pressures about a child that really did not believe would survive. Gao Wen Ying was a miracle and yet they said Jiang Jia Yi would be different. Well, here we are again. Praise God for Jiang Jia Yi's improvement. The doctors are very upbeat and know for certain God has been working through our prayers. This is what it is all about. Amen?!
The finances are still a huge burden, I can cover some of the parents daily expenses but this is only a "band-aid" on the total expenses. The latest figures are a staggering 300,000 RMB. 50,000 USD. For now we can rejoice that this little girl is improving and her scars are healing up beautifully on the open heart surgery. Please keep her in daily prayer as well as our 10 brothers and sisters in virtual prison away from the ones they love the most.
Enclosed are two pictures of Jiang Jia Yi. One is with the dad. Her hair was cut short to be able to clean her easily.
